Description

Opened in 1897, Low Memorial Library was to serve as the university's main library. The building was designed by McKim, Mead and White in the Beaux-Arts and Neoclassical style and was named for the father of Columbia University President Seth Low. The library was out of space by 1934 and had to be moved to Butler Library. The building came to house the university administration, and is used for a variety of functions.
