The first photograph is showing the entrance to NYPL., which are three entrances built into what resembles a monumental arch that the Romans would erect to celebrate victories and commemorations. Th arch is not flush with the walls of the library.

The second photograph is a close-up of the three, arched entrances into the library. The arches are flanked by fluted, Corinthian columns.
