Description

These three pictures are a reconstruction of the Library of Hadrian complex during the rule of the Roman emperor Hadrian from the Ancient Athens 3D web site.

The first image is a view of the library complex from the northwest.

The second image is of the library from the northwest but showing the buildings inside the wall of the complex.

The third image is a view from the entrance, looking across the pool and grassy area inside the portico and facing the library proper, which is in the middle. There are smaller rooms on either side and, in the corners are matching lecture rooms.

The library complex awas destroyed during the Herulian sack of Athens in 267. Three successive churches would be built on the site.
